Season of Sharing: Always Do What is Right

Jeffrey Bocar, Talent Acquisition Specialist, Human Resources Department

At Sandy Spring Bank, we support nearly 300 non-profits each year. Our annual Season of Sharing is a special time for all of us at the bank to unite our efforts and make an even greater impact throughout the holiday season.  During the Season of Sharing you will find our employees running food drives, serving meals, preparing and delivering home-cooked holiday dinners, packaging weekend food kits for students, collecting toys, and much more.  We partner with more than a dozen area non-profits to help reach our neighbors in need across Maryland, Virginia and D.C.

Since 2013, I have worked with my co-captain in Human Resources, June Perugini, and more than a dozen employees across the bank to lead a special volunteer activity in support of the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Shelter in Howard County. This multi-service center provides individuals, families and children with immediate assistance when facing a personal, mental health, family or shelter crisis. Since these individuals are likely in the midst of a traumatic life event, preparing a hot holiday meal may simply not be a priority—or even possible. And that’s where Sandy Spring Bank comes in.

We want all of our neighbors in need to have the opportunity to sit down and enjoy a meal with their loved ones around the holidays, and especially as they work through a challenging season in their life. Together, my team  shops for ingredients, prepares a complete meal, packs everything up, and personally delivers the food to the Shelter for their clients to enjoy that very evening. Last year we helped feed more than 50 people, and we look forward to doing so again this year.

As an organization, one of our guiding principles is to always strive to do what is right for our clients, community and employees. And that is exactly why we partner with the Grassroots Shelter. We are so appreciative for the opportunity to serve these individuals and families, as well as for the tremendous support that the Shelter provides to some of our most vulnerable residents all year round.

Please join me in doing what is right by helping a local family in need.  It’s as simple as following us on Facebook and Twitter.  Share or retweet any of our posts with the Season of Sharing stamp, and we’ll donate 10 meals to a local food bank.
