Season of Sharing: Take the Long View

Annie Bolger, Corporate and Client Service Manager

At Sandy Spring Bank we strive every day to make the communities and the world around us a better place to be.  Everything we do and every decision we make align with our core principles.  One of those principles is to Take the Long View, and it is something we encourage our team to do every single day.

As the Corporate and Client Service Manager I work hard to take the long view by focusing on raising awareness of the bank’s profile in Virginia by leading employee volunteer activities, serving on numerous boards and managing several events for our clients. I seek challenging opportunities so I can fully use my skills for the future success of the organization, community and my personal life. One of the employee volunteer activities that I lead occurs during the Season of Sharing campaign.  This campaign encourages employees across the bank to come together to make a positive impact on the communities we serve.

For the past four years, I have worked with my co-captain, Dana Tomisek from West Financial Services, a Sandy Spring Bank subsidiary, to lead an activity benefiting the Kiwanis Club of Fairfax’s Meals for Young Minds program.  The Meals for Young Minds program supports students at Fairfax elementary schools who do not have food on the weekend.   What really makes this event special is how it takes the collaboration of employees, clients and one of our community partners, the George Mason women’s basketball team, to make it happen.  By working together with clients and the community, we achieve one common goal:  to ensure our Fairfax children are nourished for one weekend.  Last year we provided over 600 gallon-sized weekend kits filled with child-friendly, nonperishable, nutritious food items.

Child hunger has serious implications for our community.  If we want strong and healthy communities for our future, we must make sure that our future generations have the food they need to grow and thrive today.  Together, we must take the long view this holiday season to ensure children in our area have a better future.

What can you do now to help make a better future for our community? Visit us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter to learn more about how we’re helping our communities during this Season of Sharing.  Share or retweet any of our posts with the Season of Sharing stamp, and we’ll donate 10 meals to our local food bank partners.  Together, we can make a difference by taking the long view for the children in our community.
