Sandy Spring Bank Manages the Banking Needs for Habitat for Humanity’s Philanthropy Work

John Paukstis President and CEO for Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland

Before John Paukstis became President and CEO for Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland in 2006, Sandy Spring Bank had already been the organization’s banking partner. He could tell immediately that Sandy Spring Bank had a mission to support local nonprofits and be an advocate for the community.

Habitat for Humanity hosts a variety of fundraising events and Sandy Spring Bank has always been an incredibly active participant. From its annual breakfast to its Women Build program, Sandy Spring Bank is one of Habitat for Humanity’s leading supporters.

“It’s better to work with a local bank,” he noted. “It’s more efficient to do business and easier to get decisions made by building and maintaining an ongoing partnership with a local bank.”

“We have regular meetings with Sandy Spring Bank and they understand the complexity of our business. Financially, we have to do fundraising, construction loans, underwriting for applicants, and we finance the mortgage.” He continued, “Sandy Spring Bank understands that and assists us along the way.”

According to Paukstis, Sandy Spring Bank strives to improve the community in various ways – by helping nonprofits and providing an array of products and services. “They have provided loans, lines of credit, sponsorships for events, and even volunteers for Habitat for Humanity when we build homes. We have a deep partnership that we’ve enjoyed over the years,” he said.

“When I think of Sandy Spring Bank, I think of strong leadership. That’s what comes through to me. They have a clear mission to serve the community and a long-term commitment to their customers.”
