When The Morin Company was founded in 1966, founder Gil Morin and his part-time assistant were the company’s only employees. Since then, it has grown to 80 employees with five separate engineering and HVAC contracting businesses, covering the Mid-Atlantic states and Florida. Since its inception, The Morin Company was self-funded. However, when Kevin and Mike Morin took over the company 20 years ago, they knew it didn’t make sense to continue operating this way. A reliable banking partner was needed to support the company’s rapid growth.
“When my brother and I began running the business, we weren’t in a position to finance anything personally. We needed to find a reliable source of capital. However, our current bank simply wasn’t flexible and was too regimented for our type of lending needs,” said Kevin Morin, president of The Morin Company.
Morin wanted a bank that was flexible with stellar customer service but also willing to accommodate the unique financial needs of a small HVAC distributor. That’s when he came to Sandy Spring Bank in 2015.
“The first thing I noticed when I met with Sandy Spring Bank was their willingness to work with us and learn about our family-owned business,” said Morin. “From securing a line of credit to financing equipment and fleet trucks to obtaining loans for an upcoming acquisition, Sandy Spring Bank wasn’t looking for ways to say no to our financing needs, they were looking for ways to say yes.”
Morin also touted Sandy Spring Bank’s customer service. “Working with other banks in the past, our customer service representative seemed to change every year. With Sandy Spring Bank, our relationship manager has been with us since day one. He knows our business inside and out.
“Sandy Spring Bank recognizes our business cycles and is there for us when we need a bank the most. They were also critical to keeping us afloat during the pandemic by helping us navigate the PPP loan application process,” said Morin.
He concludes, “Sandy Spring Bank is a true partner and has been a key element to our company’s growth.”
