Our Community

As the region’s largest, locally headquartered community bank, we encourage and support our employees to volunteer and take on leadership roles at local nonprofits. We also provide the community free educational resources on a variety of financial topics through our financial literacy platform, The $tation.

Giving Back

Because our employees live and work right here in the region that we serve, we are uniquely positioned to be active and visible members of our communities. Throughout the year, you will find our employees attending charitable events, raising money for important causes, donating thousands of meals to our neighbors in need and building homes for low-income individuals. Every year, we support hundreds of nonprofits across our footprint. Our philanthropic focuses are affordable housing, health and wellness, and financial literacy and education.

150+ Years Strong

Sandy Spring Bank started as a community bank over 150 years ago, and we have a long-standing record of giving back to the communities we serve. In 2018, we were proud to build on this commitment by establishing the Sandy Spring Bank Foundation.

Though our assets and presence throughout the Greater Washington region have grown, our dedication to delivering superior, personalized service to our clients and investing in the communities where we live and work has never wavered. In fact, we have received numerous recognitions and awards over the course of our history, including most recently being certified as a Great Place to Work™ and named a Top Workplace by The Washington Post and Baltimore Sun, a Best Bank to Work For by American Banker and a Best-In-State Bank by Forbes

Employee Engagement

At Sandy Spring Bank, we know that our employees play a central role in advancing our commitment to our communities. We also know that outside of the bank, many of our employees are personally involved in other nonprofits and community groups. To further encourage our employees to pursue their passion in the community and to show our appreciation, we created the Dollars for Doers program. If an employee volunteers at least 50 hours annually, the bank will make a donation to that nonprofit in recognition of our employee’s service.

Another simple way that we empower our employees is through “Casual for a Cause.” Launched in 2016, this program gives employees the opportunity to wear jeans to work for a day in exchange for a voluntary donation to a charity in our community. Since inception, employees have donated thousands of dollars to area nonprofits. Additionally, all of the benefiting organizations have been selected by an employee-led group. Because of the great enthusiasm and broad participation, the program continues to thrive
